My Philosophy of Therapy

My Philosophy of Therapy

My Philosophy of Therapy

I believe that every person, couple and family possesses what they need to become whole.  Working collaboratively with clients, we'll discover the keys to unlocking hidden strengths.  I  treat a number of mental health disorders, and provide a neutral ground to facilitate healing.

My Treatment Focus

My Philosophy of Therapy

My Philosophy of Therapy

My focus is to help individuals heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths. Working together with clients, we achieve this by creating a neutral safe space following Carl Rogers' basic tenets of therapeutic presence and customizing a treatment plan.

My Commitment To Clients

My Philosophy of Therapy

My Commitment To Clients

Once we begin the healing journey together, all struggles will be empathically explored.  Sometimes challenges require the inclusion of additional resources.  When both therapist and client agree, the healing team is expanded to include the resources tailored to facilitate the most benefits to each client.

Carl Rogers' Basic Tenets of Therapeutic Presence

Accurate Empathy

Therapists provide empathy that allows clients to retain their individual responsibility.  Therapists encourage client identity while offering healthy support .  From this perspective, the therapist is able to remain an objective third party.

Unconditional Positive Regard

Therapist provides positive regard for the client regardless of the client's mood, challenges, and attitudes.  Therapist's unconditional support of the client allows a deepened sense of trust in the therapeutic process.

Nonjudgemental Listening

Therapist listens with genuine openness to the client.  Without judgement, therapist hears the client's heart in the spoken words and unspoken mannerisms.

Congruence

Therapist offers genuine presence within therapeutic parameters.  Therapist is genuinely herself while offering limited self-disclosure .  Clients experience therapist consistently in all sessions.

Rogers' Philosophy in His Words

The way of being with another person which is termed empathic has several facets. It

means entering the private, perceptual world of the other and becoming thoroughly at

home in it. It involves being sensitive, moment to moment, to the changing felt meanings

which flow in the other person, to the fear or rage or tenderness or confusion or whatever,

that he/she is experiencing. It means temporarily living his/her life, moving about in

it delicately without making judgments, sensing meanings of which he/she is scarcely

aware, but not trying to uncover feelings of which the person is totally unaware, since

this would be too threatening (Rogers, 1980, A Way of Being, p. 142).

Why I Became A Therapist

As a teenager, I knew I wanted a career that  provides human services.  Volunteer experiences showed me that a foundation in basic mental wellness was missing from most venues in which I volunteered.  Having learned the skills to empower the  change people are seeking, I am better able to serve the community.

Service Focus

My focus is providing quality mental health counseling in Melbourne, FL at an affordable cost.  My work is for your benefit and healing.   I am responsive to client's stated therapeutic needs.  When a client's goals are met, I reduce the number of sessions a client attends monthly.  Collaboratively, your healing journey will be charted and actively pursued.

Services Provided in ASL

As an intermediate to advanced user of American Sign Language, I offer a free language consultation in ASL to see if my signing skill is adequate to meet the needs of Deaf, deaf, and hard of hearing individuals.
